Neat set of 1930's John Wanamaker Men's Store irons numbered 1 thru 9. The 9 is the putter. The 8 has a loft of around 54 degrees, equivalent to a contemporary weak pitching wedge. Wanamaker's, headquartered at Broad Street in Philadelphia, was one of a number of retail strores that had clubs made for them by various US and UK based manufacturers. These forged dot faced blades have excellent 'J' ckeek marks as well as the easily recognized Wanamaker script (John Wanamaker, around 1860, coined the phrase 'the customer is always right'). Heads quite good with only the 1 showing some front of sole gouging. Great pinned 3 1/2" hosels. Remarkably perfect 2 1/2" ferrules with all rings. Beautiful chocolate sheathed steel shafts showing almost no wear. Very good 15 1/2" leather wrap grips -- the 7i has black tape for the collar; 5 of the 9 are missing the endcaps. These clubs are playable as is.
