James became sole assistant and colleague of George Crump, founder of Pine Valley, around 1916. He was pro, greens superintendent and clubsbuilder at Pine Valley for the next 30 years. The iron is vintage 1930's. The is without the ferrule and with the replaced grip removed. Note the pinned hosel. The shaft shows some bag burn thru the chrome finish about 3" up from the hosel; there is also some chrome pitting just above the hosel - the balance of the shaft has a remarkably good chrome finish. Length was 39" which included the wood butt end plug which was damaged - this has been replaced by another wood end plug which extends length to 40" - the club can now be cut to any length between 38 1/2 and 40". In addition, this club can be reconditioned with a 'period' ferrule and leather wrap grip making it into a superb specimen by the hand of one of the key men involved with the design and construction of the world's # 1 rated golf course.
